Darryl Wright

Technical Director at Ubisoft Halifax

Darryl has been writing software, building and managing software development teams for over 20 years. He began in industries as diverse as telecommunications, government, finance and oil before finding his way to his true love, video games.

Darryl was employee #12 at HB Studios when it began and eventually found his way to the internationally successful FIFA team at Electronic Arts in BC. He brought that experience home to Nova Scotia to build the team behind Sons of Anarchy for FOX Digital Entertainment. That led to the creation of his own company, Punk Science Studios Inc. in 2015, a platform with which to explore what he saw as the most effective and positive aspects of development and studio culture. Darryl’s small team worked on several contracts, built promising prototypes, and shipped the official AR app for Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Punk Science also worked in the field of medicine on the front lines of the fight against cancer.

In 2017 Punk Science was shelved and the team became Gogii Lighthouse Studios Inc. -- a subsidiary of Gogii Games based in New Brunswick. Under Darryl’s management, the small team grew to 20 and continues to thrive to this day.

In mid 2020 Darryl changed tracks back to the world of AAA gaming but with a mobile focus as the Technical Director of Ubisoft Halifax. There, he continues to be a major advocate for the video game industry in Halifax, Nova Scotia as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the Interactive Society of Nova Scotia.
